UK planning applications API

Search UK planning applications by UPRN, postcode, outcode or council. Status, decision, dates and links to the council's own page, returned as JSON.

Planning registers are spread across hundreds of council websites, each laid out differently. One search returns them in the same fields, with the UPRN on the record where we hold it.

Endpoints

Questions

Which areas are covered?

Councils in England, Scotland and Wales, with applications going back to 2000. The councils endpoint lists every council in the data with the date of its latest application, so you can check the places you rely on.

How current is the data?

Existing applications are refreshed every day or two, so decisions and status changes arrive quickly. New applications usually appear a few days after the council receives them, because councils publish on their own schedule, and some councils have stopped publishing to our source. Each council's latest application and a current, delayed or stalled label are listed by the councils endpoint.

How does the UPRN get on a record?

UPRNs are matched to the address on the application automatically. Land, site-level applications and vague addresses often cannot be matched, so uprn can be null. Search by postcode to find those.

Does it include applicant names?

No. The applicant's and agent's names and addresses, and the case officer, are not part of this product.

Can I rely on it for a decision?

Treat it as a fast way to find applications, then confirm on the council's own register. The data is provided as is, may be incomplete or out of date, and we accept no responsibility for decisions made in reliance on it.

How many requests are free?

There is a free plan on RapidAPI so you can try it before you pay. Paid plans raise the limit.
